Recommended Posts

With unprecedented access to police work, drug support agencies, detox clinics, custody suites, local NHS health Trusts, drug dealers and a wide range of users, Drugsland looks at the consumption, dealing, treatment and policing of illegal drugs in one major UK city.

Episode one,

Drugsland enters the worlds of the users, abusers and dealers, and follows the lives and work of those tackling the problem on a day-by-day basis in Bristol. These include professionals from Avon and Somerset Police, the Bristol Drugs Project, Bristol City Council, and those who offer support and services to people caught up in the drugs war, both from the private sector and the NHS.

Episode 2

This episode follows the lives of a couple united in love and a shared heroin habit. Jo and Rich live and sleep in a multistorey car park in central Bristol. They make up to a thousand pounds a week begging, but they spend virtually all of it on feeding their voracious drug habits.

The programme witnesses the council and police joining forces to crack down on begging and rough sleeping. Police officer Mark and council worker Rich are armed with the power of arrest, along with access to the council's support services. This carrot-and-stick approach means Rich and Jo must either accept their offer of rehab or face being split up by being sent to prison.
